Ultrafoam FBE
Corrosion barrier coating for thermal insulation and corrosion protection
Ultrafoam FBE is a spray applied polyurethane foam insulation system designed to provide excellent thermal insulation and corrosion protection. Used predominantly for sour gas, heavy oil, Ultrafoam FBE consists of a corrosion barrier coating sprayed with a polyurethane foam for thermal insulation which is then over-coated with a UV resistant polyethylene jacket for mechanical protection.
Product Features:
- Recommended for operating temperatures from -40°C to 110°C
- Available in lower operating temperatures with a lesser FBE thickness
- Bendable in the field
- Polyurethane foam can be applied in thicknesses from 52.4mm to 76.2mm (1 to 3 inches)
- Developed for thermal insulation and corrosion protection
Pipe Application Range
Minimum pipe diameter: 60.3mm (2 inches)
Maximum pipe diameter: 1067mm (42 inches)
Minimum pipe length: 5.5m (18 feet)
Maximum pipe length: 25m (82 feet)
Compliancy (Corrosion barrier only)

Field Construction: BPPC is a supplier of polyurethane half shells or field foaming available in lower operating temperatures with a lesser FBE thickness. Precautionary measures must be exercised during handling and installation in cold temperatures.
Cold Weather Handling: We define "Cold Weather" as ambient temperatures causing the pipe and related coating to be colder than -25°C. Outer PE jacket should be gradually pre-heated prior to bending at ambient temperatures colder than -25°C. Outer PE jacket should be gradually pre-heated prior to sleeve application (pre-heating should extend back at least 2m-3m on either side of the joint area) this is to minimize the thermal shock the PE is exposed to when first contacted with a propane torch at full output.
Foam insulated pipe (steel OD size 8.625" and larger) strung out on the ground should be supported in at least four (4) equally distributed locations, dimensional pads should be in the 8" X 8" range minimum. Foam insulated pipe should also be supported on a substrate with more "cushion" than hard wood skids (sand or sawdust filled bags). Foam insulated pipe should be handled with a spreader bar and two wide (12" minimum width) belt slings as opposed to end-hooking to minimize stress on the outer PE.
- Flexibility of the outer PE is considerably reduced at colder temperatures.
- The spreader bar should be of sufficient length so as to equally distribute the total weight load evenly to both belt slings. The above should be considered a procedure to be requested.
